I agree about the tragedy Mistress. Interestingly, there are studies that indicate whale beachings are linked to naval sonar equipment. Basically there seems to be naval sonar activity near most beachings, and most beached whales are found to have inner ear damage which probably ruins their sense of direction. Hence, the beachings. Could there have been naval activity around the Coromandel on the day of the beachings?

Yep, I've been discussing the same theory with friends over the last couple of days. I wonder how far away the testing actually is. I mean, they could be testing in France and still affect the sea creatures down this end of the world.
