It's basically marketing to children between the ages of 8 and 13, known as "Tweens", bypassing the parents totally. Her company spends time identifying young girls with "alpha personalitites". These girls are then taught to be "influencers", or "Secret Agents". They then (with the company's help) organise slumber parties for a group of their friends.
The intent of these slumber parties is market research and direct marketing. So a company would hire this woman to research what the Tweens are into and market to them directly by using the Secret Agent.
Apparently they have approx 500 slumber parties, which equates to 7000 young girls, on their books right now. They have tapped into a $335 Billion per year market. They have even created a new pop star, Jojo to feed the desire of these kids to look the part etc - 13yr old child singing about breakups etc, and claiming kids go thru this at 8! OMG!
So what do you think? Brilliant idea, or dodgy way to exploit kids to line their own pockets? Or both? I must admit I was slightly queasy after seeing the article.
