Riqi Harawira Live at The Old Stone Butter Factory

Riqi Harawira is an acoustic roots funk and soul artist. Reflecting the sound of the world through uniquely Aotearoan eyes creating a tribal pop sound, with acoustic guitar, vocals, Koaue aue Maori flute), pu moana (Maori conch shell), didgeredoo and Tibetan throat singing. Riqi blends traditional Maori waita (song) with the pop, funk, and reggae.

Riqi has been involved in music for the past 20 years. He started out with high school bands Push Push, Whiskey and Lace, graduating into Dead Flowers (alternative Rock) during the 90's. He joined Stellar ( Rock/Pop) with Boh Runga, joined Damm Native (HipHop) for a time, and also True Real (Live Funky House).

Riqi launched his solo career in 2001 and has just released his 6th single Goddess.

Riqi is hugely involved in the MASsiVe (Men Against Sexual Violence) movement. He has recently completed a Hikoi walking the talk to raise awareness about sexual violence and the need to speak out. He (and others) walked 440kms (legends!) starting at the Auckland Harbour Bridge, finishing at Cape Reinga, stopping at schools and towns for rallies along the way.

Riqi was the sole entertainer on the Hikoi. He added a lighter positive vibe after the heavy discussions with college students and town rallies throughout the north.

Riqi is a fantastic musician with a unique sound that will leave a lasting impression of joy, togetherness, and peace.
